The Apostle Paul states in Romans 8:5,6 that "those who live according to the flesh, set their minds on the things of the flesh and those who live according to the Spirit, set their minds on the things of the Spirit." What the Bible is teaching us is that where we focus our minds, literally controls what's happening in our lives.

In the book of Proverbs, chapter 4, Solomon tells us to "guard our hearts, for out of it flows the issues of life." The word "issues" means the "outcomes." Hebrews 4:13 teaches us that the heart of man is made up of the soul and spirit of man. A person's soul is defined as the "mind, will and emotions." So again we see, what we allow to go on in our mind, controls the outcomes of our lives. 

Instead of always blaming some outside source or force for all of life's problems, we need to look inside our heart.
